I am very ill, and I hope I can celebrate my last birthday

Today is a bittersweet day for me—it’s my birthday, but this year feels different. My name is Min, and I am a dog who has always loved birthdays. The joy of being surrounded by my family, the delicious treats, and the games we play have made each birthday a cherished memory. But today, as I feel the heaviness in my heart, I know this might be my last celebration.

I have been very ill for a while now, and my body feels weak. The vet has told my owner that I don’t have much time left, which makes today even more special. My owner, Lucy, has been by my side every day, showering me with love and care, and I can see the sadness in her eyes. She wants to make this day memorable, knowing how much it means to me.

As the sun rises, casting a warm glow through the window, I hear Lucy bustling around in the kitchen. The delightful aroma of my favorite treats fills the air. My heart lifts a little at the thought of the special birthday cake she promised me—made with peanut butter and sweet potatoes, just the way I like it.

After a gentle breakfast, Lucy decorates the living room with colorful balloons and a banner that reads, “Happy Birthday, Min!” She talks to me softly, reminiscing about all the fun times we’ve had together over the years. I wag my tail in response, trying to convey all the love I feel for her.

When my friends arrive—my dog pals from the neighborhood—the house fills with laughter and joy. We play a few games in the yard, and even though I tire quickly, I cherish every moment spent with them. The love in the air is palpable, and I feel grateful for the warmth surrounding me.

Finally, it’s time for the cake! Lucy brings out the beautiful cake, and I can hardly contain my excitement. Everyone gathers around, singing a cheerful birthday song just for me. I feel a surge of happiness mixed with sadness, knowing that this moment is so precious. When they set the cake down, I dive into it, savoring every bite as if it were the last delicious meal I’ll ever have.

After the cake, we sit together, sharing stories and laughter. I watch Lucy’s smile, and even though I know my time is limited, I feel an overwhelming sense of love. I want her to remember this day not with tears but with smiles and warmth in her heart.

As the sun sets, painting the sky in beautiful hues of orange and pink, I snuggle up next to Lucy on the couch. She gently strokes my fur, and I lean into her, feeling her love wrap around me like a warm blanket.

“I am very ill, and I hope I can celebrate my last birthday,” I think, but I also know that today has been filled with so much love and joy. I feel at peace, knowing that I have given her everything I could, and that we will always share the bond of unconditional love.

Today may be my last birthday, but it has been a day filled with happiness, laughter, and love. As I close my eyes, surrounded by my friends and my beloved owner, I know I will always live on in their hearts. Happy birthday to me, Min.
