It’s not uncommon for a dog to be born with some form of deformity. These puppies desire the same things as any other—they simply want to live happily with someone they love. What I find hard to understand is how cruel some people can be toward these dogs, treating them as less because of their health issues. They experience the same emotions as any other dog, yet they can’t control how others view them. It’s heartbreaking and unfair, and it’s something that needs to change.
In this story, the dog we’ll talk about was born without front legs and was heartlessly abandoned by its previous owners under the worst possible circumstances. When rescuers were informed about a puppy without front legs being discarded in a pile of trash, they immediately sprang into action. They were appalled to learn that such a vulnerable pup had been treated so cruelly, unable to fend for himself. Without help, the only fate awaiting him was starvation.
Thankfully, someone noticed his dire situation and chose to step in. When the rescuers arrived, they were in utter disbelief at how anyone could have done this to such a helpless puppy. But none of that mattered anymore. The priority was to get him out of that horrible place and into a safe environment. He was gently placed in a car and taken to a shelter, where the rescuers made sure he had a good meal before he settled in for a long, well-deserved nap.The puppy, now named Tommy, seemed to understand right away that he was finally in the care of the right people when they came to his rescue. A few days later, it was time to move him to a foster home where someone could watch over him around the clock and make sure he had everything he needed.
However, Tommy still needed a visit to the vet for some tests to determine how they could assist him with walking. After running a series of tests, the vet discovered that Tommy might actually be a good candidate for prosthetics, which could help him move around normally again. This was incredible news, marking a huge step forward for Tommy, as it would allow him to do all the things other dogs can do. Blood tests revealed a few minor health issues, but nothing serious that couldn’t be treated.
He received all his vaccinations and had regular visits to the vet for routine checkups to monitor his progress. As the days passed with his new foster parent, Tommy was improving remarkably. His appetite had grown—he absolutely loved to eat all the time.
He also had a canine sibling, and they bonded deeply. This companion helped Tommy feel normal and accepted, and it was heartwarming to witness their growing friendship.Several months later, Tommy was a completely transformed dog. He didn’t let his challenges hold him back and was embracing life to the fullest. It was now time for him to learn how to use his new wheelchair prosthetics. Although still a little unsure, they would make moving around much easier with practice. Fortunately, Tommy has wonderful people supporting him on his road to recovery, and I have no doubt everything will turn out just fine for him. Tommy is a truly special dog.
