Today is my birthday, and I wish for a forever home

Today is my birthday. I should be wagging my tail, feeling excited, and surrounded by love, but instead, I sit in this cold shelter, waiting. My name is Sun, and though today marks another year of life, all I can think about is my one true wish: a forever home.

I wasn’t always here. I used to have a family once, but something changed. One day, they brought me here and left without saying goodbye. Since then, I’ve watched other dogs come and go, but no one ever chose me. Every time someone visits the shelter, I get my hopes up. I press my nose to the bars, wagging my tail, hoping they’ll notice me. Yet, every time, they pass me by.

It’s lonely here, but I try to stay strong. The kind workers feed me and give me some attention, but it’s not the same. What I long for is to belong to someone—to feel the warmth of a home, to have a soft bed to sleep on, and most of all, to hear someone say, “Good boy, Sun.” I dream of chasing balls in a yard, taking walks, and curling up on the couch beside a human who loves me.

As the sun sets on my birthday, I can’t help but wonder if my wish will ever come true. All I want is someone to take me home and give me the love I’ve been missing. I may not be perfect, and I know I’ve been here for a while, but I still have so much love to give. Today, on my birthday, I wish for a forever family—someone who will love me for who I am and never let me go.

Maybe, just maybe, tomorrow will be the day my wish finally comes true.
