The will to survive of a dog without two hind legs

Putol, a resilient dog with a disability, was fortunate enough to find a loving owner who changed his life for the better. Despite being born with a severe handicap, Putol now lives a happy and fulfilling life, thanks to his deep loyalty to his compassionate caregiver.

Putol, a 6-year-old dog, was abandoned at birth due to the disability affecting both of his hind legs. Fortunately, he was taken in by Danilo Codilego Jr., who resides in Casiguran, Philippines.

“I first encountered Putol about 6 years ago while working at a bakery. One day, a colleague brought four dogs to sell for 5,000 pesos (around 6.2 million VND). The other dogs, all healthy and beautiful, were sold quickly, but Putol was left behind due to his disability. No one wanted to adopt him, and his owner even considered abandoning him. At that moment, I knew I had to care for this poor dog.”

“I couldn’t think of a better name than Putol,” Danilo recalled. “During the first two years of his life, Putol faced many challenges trying to move around with only two legs. It was tough for him, but his determination was remarkable. He soon learned how to balance on his front legs, a true testament to his willpower. Today, Putol lives a life free from obstacles.”

Thanks to Danilo’s unwavering care and compassion, Putol adapted to life on two legs and now leads a joyful life, seamlessly fitting in with the other dogs in Casiguran, Quezon City, Philippines. Not only has Putol learned to play and socialize, but he has also become an excellent guard dog, always on the lookout to protect his beloved owner.

“Putol does his best to protect me, barking at any strangers who come near. He even gets jealous when I give attention to other dogs. Despite his disability, he’s a friendly dog and well-loved in the neighborhood. When I’m at work, my neighbors often help take care of him,” Danilo shared with pride. “The only sorrow I feel is that because of his congenital condition, Putol cannot have puppies of his own.”
