The ordeal began after a heavy downpour when the dog’s barking caught the attention of nearby residents. Approaching the bridge, they discovered the puppies trapped underneath, unable to move. Pedro Chafala, one of the bystanders, decided to take matters into his own hands. Surrounded by worried neighbors and municipal workers who struggled to assist, Pedro saw the urgency of the situation.
The bridge was narrow, and the puppies were stuck in the middle, unreachable by conventional means. In an interview with the local news outlet El Cuco Digital, Pedro shared, “I could only go so far, but I managed to reach them and carry them out one by one.”
Social media user Javier Moyano, who had become invested in the rescue, captured the moment on camera and shared it online. The images showed Pedro covered in mud, standing beside the grateful mother dog and her newly freed pups. Thanks to Pedro’s courageous efforts, these puppies now have a chance at life. Although the firefighters were aware of the rescue throughout, it was the bold action of the locals, especially Pedro, that ultimately saved the puppies. The narrow space where the puppies were trapped made the rescue even more critical, as the floodwaters continued to rise. Some reports indicate that the puppies are now up for adoption, offering them a hopeful future.
