Louisville Metro Animal Services reported that a dog is on the mend after being discovered with a gunshot wound to the head.

On Tuesday, the shelter posted photos of Magic, the dog, noting that he is currently under the care of the shelter’s veterinary team.

Magic was found with the injury on January 15 and was taken to Jefferson Animal Hospital by an animal control officer for urgent care, according to LMAS spokeswoman Teeya Barnes.

After receiving initial care, Magic was brought to the shelter for further treatment.

The shelter reported that Magic’s jaw was fractured when a bullet entered above his right eye and exited on the left side.

Despite his injuries, Magic remains in good spirits, and the shelter plans to keep the public updated on his progress.

“He’s in great hands,” Louisville Metro Animal Services commented on their post, expressing their gratitude that Magic made it to their care.

Magic is estimated to be between eight months and one year old. Despite his condition, he still sits up to greet everyone who enters his room.

Currently, Magic is on pain medication and is being fed by syringe.

On Tuesday afternoon, the shelter announced that Magic would be transferred to the Kentucky Humane Society, where he will face a long recovery, including at least one surgery.
