Despite being diagnosed with heartworm disease, a completely treatable condition, Gregory the Beagle was on the brink of euthanasia at the Franklin County Animal Shelter. Thankfully, Joe Kirk learned of his situation just in time and rushed to save him, feeling immense compassion for the dog.
Every pet deserves the care they need and a loving, permanent home where they are cherished for who they are. Like humans, pets can fall ill, but as long as the illness is treatable, it’s worth fighting for their lives. No one should be abandoned or euthanized simply because they’re sick. Joe and his wife, Schenley, founded the nonprofit organization Hound Rescue and Sanctuary in Findlay, Ohio, to help dogs in need and prevent their abandonment. They work tirelessly to ensure that every dog is in the best possible health and that those struggling to find homes are eventually adopted. Their most important mission is to save dogs from euthanasia.
When Gregory, the Beagle, was rescued from the shelter, he immediately showed his gratitude by hugging his savior. The couple caring for him believes Gregory knew he was safe the moment they took him in. Now receiving medical attention for his condition, Gregory is in excellent hands, surrounded by love and given the chance at a bright future.
At Hound Rescue and Sanctuary, 30 dogs are currently housed and cared for, many of whom are available for adoption. Volunteers work diligently to provide these dogs with the best care possible. Gregory quickly captured the hearts of many and found a forever home after being put up for adoption. In a series of heartwarming photos, Gregory is seen hugging Joe, expressing his deep gratitude for being saved from euthanasia. These images have garnered significant attention online, with many people commenting on the dog’s loving nature.
Now, Gregory has a wonderful family who adores him and is committed to giving him the best life possible. He’s enjoying the comforts of home while receiving treatment for his heartworm condition. He also has a Beagle sibling with whom he has already formed a close bond.
Joe and his wife are overjoyed that they were able to save Gregory, a dog who deserved so much more than the fate he almost faced. For them, every life is precious, and while they know they can’t save every animal, they take great pride in saving each one they can. Gregory’s constant display of affection, with hugs and kisses, is a testament to his happiness at finally being home. His family is equally thrilled to have him, ensuring that Gregory will never again face the fear of abandonment or euthanasia. They are certain that their life together will be full of love and joy.
