A boxer-pit bull mix, abandoned, malnourished, and injured, was found lying in a public park in Bloomington, Indiana. Onlookers quickly contacted the sheriff’s department for help, moved by the heartbreaking scene. The dog, later named Daisy, was taken in by Jeff’s fiancée, Rosie Ahlberg, after the local animal shelter had closed for the day, leaving Daisy without immediate shelter. Rosie and Jeff decided to care for Daisy overnight.
The following day, Rosie, a regular volunteer, brought Daisy to the City of Bloomington Animal Care and Control facility. The veterinary examination revealed that Daisy had a ruptured ACL, a damaged meniscus, a luxating patella, and significant emotional trauma from untreated wounds and burns. Daisy’s previous owners were found, and it was discovered that they had not been in contact with her since she was hit by a car in April.
This situation presented Rosie and Jeff with a perfect opportunity to show their compassion for Daisy. “Jeff has a deep love for animals,” Rosie noted, adding that the couple already had two cats and a rescue dog. Adopting another pet was a major decision, but seeing Daisy’s positive interaction with their existing pets convinced them to give her a chance.
Daisy quickly adapted to her new home, learning to enjoy being petted, remain unbothered by loud noises, and coexist peacefully with the other animals. Rosie commented, “Though she takes up less space in the bed, she deserves every bit of it because she is such a good dog.” Daisy’s affection and dedication to her new family have been evident since she arrived.
While Daisy’s health is improving, she still requires surgery to address her injuries.
