An injured puppy found a guardian angel who saved both his paw and his life after a harrowing encounter with an illegal trap. The dog was in a critical state when a passerby noticed him with his leg caught in the trap, crying out for help. The concerned individual reported the situation to Pima Animal Care, prompting Officer Kristen Weigand to respond.
Recognizing the danger of further injury, Officer Weigand decided not to remove the trap on-site. Instead, she carefully transported the dog, still attached to the trap, to a veterinary clinic, ensuring minimal pain and stress during the journey. At the clinic, veterinarians skillfully removed the trap and performed x-rays, which fortunately showed no broken bones, only a few cuts that were quickly treated. The dog, now affectionately named “Trapper,” has been stabilized and is on the path to recovery.
