Dog Tied To Pole Extends Paw To Rescuing Officer

In Pompano, Florida, two dogs were reportedly tied to utility poles. Officer Angela Laurella was assigned to investigate.

With no cameras in the area, it was unclear how long the dogs had been there or who had abandoned them. However, Officer Laurella knew there was no time to lose as the temperature outside had already surpassed 100 degrees.

She hurried over and saw a frail gray dog clinging to a pole so tightly that it had rendered him immobile.

According to The Dodo, Amy Roman, president and founder of 100+ Abandoned Dogs of Everglades, Florida, described the situation: “He was tied to a pole with a very short leash.” The dog was severely underweight and dehydrated, with every rib and bone visible.

Now named Liam, the dog lowered his head and placed a paw in the officer’s hand, seemingly begging for affection. Roman noted that Liam seemed to shrink and extend his paw when she approached quietly, as if pleading for help to escape his dire situation.

Liam, who had a challenging start to life and required special care, was taken in by Officer Laurella with the assistance of the 100+ Abandoned Dogs of Everglades Florida. Despite the rescue’s heavy workload, Roman was eager to welcome Liam.

Following multiple vet visits, Liam, a 17-pound pocket bulldog, is now recuperating at Roman’s home. He is gradually gaining strength and eating more effectively than he did before.

Roman noted, “He receives so much affection all the time.” Liam’s body is adjusting well to being fed every hour, and with volunteers preparing large batches of chicken and rice, he’s thriving.

Although he still has a long road ahead with numerous vet appointments, Liam has brought joy since his rescue.

Roman added, “He loves everyone, and there’s not a mean bone in his body.” She emphasized, “That speaks volumes to me because he’s still so grateful and forgiving despite everything he’s been through.”

Recently, many pets in Florida, including Liam, have been abandoned or surrendered for adoption.

Roman hopes that pet owners will first explore aid and resources from shelters and rescues before deciding they can no longer care for their animals, as many shelters are already at capacity. Liam is a prime example of how every dog deserves a second chance.

Despite everything, Liam persists in his efforts to help others, showing his readiness for a loving family.

Roman added, “I believe dogs like Liam can teach us significant lessons. They restore your faith, she said.”
