In Hattiesburg, Mississippi, a Great Pyrenees named Keba escaped from his handler on July 29 while being transported to a shelter in New Orleans. The dog vanished during a break at the Home Depot off I-59.

Keba, who responds to his name but may not always come when called, is primarily tan with white fur. He has a brown right eye and a blue/brown left eye. At the shelter, he weighed 60 pounds but appeared quite skinny, having recently been treated for mange. He was wearing a red collar with a blue/grey leash. Seized from an out-of-state cruelty case, Keba had been severely neglected and was en route to the Animal Helper rescue.

Concerns are growing for Keba’s survival without ongoing care, as he has been seen struggling in the neighborhood. Local animal rescuers have mobilized to assist, with Alissa Johnson from Animal Helper New Orleans urging for help. Volunteers were able to trace Keba’s tracks to a culvert under the Interstate, and assistance with a thermal image drone would be invaluable in locating him. Identifying the exact location of the culvert and ensuring that Keba isn’t trapped is crucial. Volunteers are also needed to search nearby wooded areas.

Recent sightings of Keba have been reported near Woodland Presbyterian Church and at 2900 Tiltree. Animal Control officers are aware of the situation.

If you can assist, please contact Alissa Johnson or the rescue page. Your help is greatly needed.
