Prepare some tissues, as this heart-wrenching story is likely to bring tears to your eyes. It was a deeply emotional moment when a retired police dog was reunited with his previous handler.
Wang Wang, an eight-year-old German shepherd, serves as a sniffer dog at a security checkpoint in Xichuan, Henan Province, central China.
He is set to retire and leave his agency in June 2019, after which he will find a permanent home to spend the rest of his days.
Last month, a police officer who had been Matan Wangwang’s handler decided to surprise the dog with a visit while patrolling near Wangwang’s residence.
A recent video shared on the Xichuan police Douyin account, China’s version of TikTok, shows officers approaching Wang Wang.
Upon hearing the agent’s call, Wang Wang quickly dashed out the front door and leaped into the old agent’s embrace.
As he cried beside his former owner, Wang Wang licked his legs.
Throughout the entire time the patrol was heading back to their van, Wang Wang trailed closely behind his manager.
The message read, “Although Wang Wang’s fur has grayed, he remains healthy and robust.” Parting with friends is always challenging.
As soon as viewers saw the heartfelt reunion between the loyal dog and his trainer, their hearts began to soften.
One commenter wrote, “Dogs are loyal companions; make sure to treat them well!”
Another person remarked, “It’s clear that Wang Wang misses his handler.”
Many were curious as to why Wang Wang and his agency couldn’t remain together after their emotional reunion.
The police in Xichuan responded, “While police dogs are usually fed at the training center, our officers are unable to dedicate time to playing or exercising with retired dogs.”
