It’s difficult to imagine that only a few months ago, Valerie was left to die on the roadside after being struck by a car, until a compassionate passerby found her and brought her to a veterinarian.
Following x-rays, an ultrasound, and numerous other tests, it was discovered that she was pregnant with six kittens, had a punctured lung, and suffered head trauma. Her head was severely swollen, with her left eye nearly swollen shut. The situation appeared bleak for her.
However, Valerie’s resilience shone through, as she refused to surrender. After being transferred to Animal Care and Control, she was quickly taken in by our dedicated foster, Vivian, who promptly brought her to our veterinary clinic. There, it was confirmed that Valerie was pregnant and in critical condition. That very evening, Valerie gave birth to six severely premature kittens. Sadly, four of the kittens were stillborn, and the two remaining ones survived for only three days. It was an immensely heart-wrenching situation, yet Valerie persevered with her indomitable spirit throughout it all.
During her recuperation, Valerie demonstrated remarkable cooperation and affection. She accepted her medication and treatment with grace and dignity, without a hint of complaint. Despite enduring so much, she blossomed into an exceedingly loving and affectionate cat.
Today, Valerie is a stunning, joyful, and thriving cat who adores being near her human companion. While she may not enjoy being picked up, likely a result of the trauma from her past injuries, she eagerly welcomes pets and delights in playing with her toys. When she’s not engaged in exploration and play, you’ll often find her lounging on her cat tower by the window, soaking in the sunshine and enjoying the view.
Finally, the day came for Valerie to embark on her journey to find a permanent home. Having overcome so much, we knew she deserved a family who would cherish and care for her forever. With Valerie and her feline companion, Maybelle, loaded up for transport, we set off for Salem Animal Rescue in New Hampshire, confident she would find her perfect match. There, Valerie and Maybelle were adopted together by a compassionate and loving family.
Now, Valerie has truly found her happily-ever-after. She enjoys a life of comfort and affection with her new family, surrounded by love. Despite her challenging start in life, Valerie has made remarkable progress, and we couldn’t be more thrilled for her. She is a truly special cat, and we feel privileged to have been part of her remarkable journey.
Valerie’s remarkable journey from the brink of death to a nurturing, joyful home serves as a powerful reminder of the profound bond between humans and animals, and the incredible resilience found within the spirit of cats.
A heartfelt thanks goes out to Vivian, Valerie’s exceptional foster mother, to Salem Animal Rescue for facilitating Valerie’s adoption into her forever home, and to Valerie’s new family for choosing to provide a loving and permanent home for this delightful and affectionate girl.
