At the age of 21, Bully was taken in by a senior dog rescue, and he continues to thrive, reaching an age that few dogs ever attain.

Happy Birthday to this charmingly elderly Chihuahua!

While dogs generally have shorter lifespans than humans, some are fortunate enough to enjoy exceptionally long lives. Each birthday in a dog’s senior years becomes a special milestone deserving of celebration.

One remarkable rescue dog recently celebrated his 23rd birthday—an impressive age for a dog—with a unique birthday bash.

Bully, a Chihuahua, enjoyed a long and fulfilling life. However, when he was 21, his world changed dramatically as his elderly owner could no longer care for him, leading to his adoption by the senior dog rescue, The Mr. Mo Project, as reported by The Dodo.

Adjusting to a new environment at his advanced age can be challenging, but Bully, affectionately known as Bobo, has surpassed the typical life expectancy for a Chihuahua, earning him the title of “super senior.”

Now the oldest resident at the rescue, Bully’s 23rd birthday was celebrated with great enthusiasm. According to Chris Hughes and his wife Mariesa, founders of The Mr. Mo Project, senior dogs hold a special place in their hearts, a passion sparked by their experience with Moses, a 12-year-old dog surrendered due to his age.

The couple reportedly invested over $55,000 to transform their home into a haven for senior dogs, offering these often-overlooked animals a loving environment in which to enjoy their twilight years.

Outside of their work with The Mr. Mo Project, Chris shared with Insider, “We both hold full-time jobs. This is no longer just a job for us; it’s a passion. All of our resources go into it.”

Bully, the oldest resident of the rescue, was honored with a memorable celebration for his 23rd birthday.

While dogs don’t have lifespans as long as humans, some are fortunate to live extended, healthy lives. For senior dogs, each birthday becomes a cherished milestone to celebrate.

Take, for example, one extraordinary rescue dog who recently turned 23—a remarkable age in canine terms—and was treated to a truly special birthday party.

Bully, a Chihuahua, enjoyed a notably long life, but at 21, he faced a significant transition when his aging owner could no longer care for him. He was subsequently adopted by The Mr. Mo Project, a senior dog rescue, as reported by The Dodo.

At such an advanced age, adjusting to a new environment can be challenging for a dog. Bully, also known as Bobo, is considered a “super senior” due to surpassing the typical lifespan of Chihuahuas.

Despite the difficulties, Bully has managed to adapt and thrive in his new home after spending two years with the rescue.

Chris Hughes, who runs the rescue, shared with The Dodo that Bully is a mix of feistiness, mischief, sweetness, independence, gentleness, and calmness, with a distinctive old man bark. Even in his senior years, he still enjoys asserting himself with the other Chihuahuas.

Now the oldest resident at the rescue, Bully recently marked his remarkable twenty-third birthday with a special celebration.

According to a Facebook post, Bully was born on April 5, 1999, making him one of the rare dogs to have lived through two millennia. While such a milestone calls for a grand celebration, Bully preferred a more modest event.

Due to the limited number of teeth baby has, Hughes explained, “we opted for a soft biscuit and crushed it up so he could enjoy it.” Given his love for sleeping, this would be a perfect treat for him.

Chris Hughes and his wife Mariesa, founders of the Mr. Mo Project, hold senior dogs close to their hearts. Their motivation to start the rescue came from caring for Moses, a 12-year-old dog who was surrendered due to his age.

The couple reportedly invested over $55,000 to transform their home into a haven for senior dogs, providing a safe and comfortable environment for these often overlooked animals to enjoy their twilight years.

Outside of The Mr. Mo Project, Chris mentioned to Insider, “We both have full-time jobs. This has become a labor of love rather than just a job. All our money goes into it.”

“Many of the dogs that come to us are overlooked due to their appearance,” Chris added. “They may have poor legs, bad teeth, crusted eyes, and matted fur, but they still have so much life to live.”

Over the years, they have witnessed numerous senior dogs come and go, always with enthusiasm for marking their significant milestones.

Chris shared with The Dodo, “We strive to celebrate every joyful event in our home, especially since challenges often arise. We honor birthdays, adoptions, and the completion of chemotherapy treatments for our dogs. We even hold a Christmas in July if we think a dog might not make it to the actual holiday.”

Bully’s remarkable 23rd birthday was undeniably one of the most special occasions.

Happy 23rd birthday, Bully! Reaching this milestone is truly wonderful – here’s to many more joyful years ahead!
