A moving image of a dog waiting by an empty hospital bed served as yet another testament to the deep love dogs offer. The photograph of this heart-wrenching scene quickly went viral on social media.
The shelter was at capacity, and with no one willing to adopt Moose, a three-year-old Labrador mix, he was slated to be euthanized. Thankfully, Moose was rescued and adopted by Eleventh Hour Rescue in Randolph, New Jersey.
Although Moose had finally found a home, tragedy struck again when his owner passed away from cancer a year later. Despite his grief, Moose remained unaware of his owner’s death, only knowing to wait. Even though he is certain that his beloved human will not return, he still holds onto hope for a miracle.
Heartbroken volunteers from Eleventh Hour Rescue acted swiftly to bring Moose into their care. Moose was deeply cherished by everyone at the shelter, and they worked tirelessly to find him a home as quickly as possible.
Linda Barish, a member of the executive committee, explained, “Our policy at Eleventh Hour Rescue is to take the dogs back whenever the owner passes away.” We never anticipated this situation would arise.
NorthStar Pet Rescue and Eleventh Hour Rescue shared Moose’s story and photo online, hoping to find a local foster or adoptive family. The post received thousands of comments in response.
Eleventh Hour Rescue updated their Facebook page, noting that Moose, unaware of his owner’s passing, waited patiently by his father’s hospital bed for his return.
As the image went viral, they were overwhelmed with adoption inquiries. Just three days later, Moose was adopted by his new forever family, according to Eleventh Hour Rescue.
