A man leaves his dog outside a shelter, with the entire incident captured by surveillance cameras

Unfortunately, reports of animals being abandoned by their owners continue to surface frequently. However, in many instances, there are watchful eyes that capture everything—cameras, which can play a crucial role in these situations.

This story takes place in Rogersville, USA, at the Hawkins County Humane Society shelter, a facility dedicated to taking in stray and abandoned animals, helping them find loving homes and families.

While it’s common for the volunteers there to participate in rescue missions, they rarely encounter cases like the one we are about to share.

One day, the shelter’s surveillance cameras caught a heartbreaking act of abandonment in real time. The footage shows a man arriving in a white pick-up truck, stopping to let his dog out before driving away, leaving the dog behind.

At one point, the dog turns away from the man and runs back toward the vehicle, desperately trying to stop him. The dog jumps on him and barks frantically, but the man manages to drive away. Despite this, the dog chases after the vehicle, running dangerously into the middle of the road, weaving between cars, with the risk of being hit. Thankfully, no accident occurs.

Soon after, some volunteers emerge from the shelter, as they too had witnessed the dog’s frantic pursuit from inside. They quickly bring the distressed dog, whom they later name Rohide, into the shelter. But the question remains: why didn’t the man simply hand the dog over instead of abandoning him outside?

When asked, the man claimed that the facility’s door was locked, a fact confirmed by the volunteers. Later, through his lawyer, the man sent a letter explaining that the dog was actually a stray that he had found. Unable to care for the dog himself, he decided to bring it to the shelter. However, this explanation does not excuse such a harsh and heartless abandonment. We can only hope that such scenes will not be repeated in the future!
