Today was supposed to be a special day for me, a day filled with joy and celebration because it was my birthday. My name is Su, and I had always imagined my birthday would be filled with love, treats, and maybe even a party with friends. But instead, I found myself alone on the cold, hard streets, abandoned by the one I trusted the most.
It all started this morning when the sun rose. I could hear the cheerful sounds of children playing and the smell of delicious food wafting through the air. My tail wagged with excitement as I thought maybe today would be different. I had seen my owner preparing for something special in the past, and I hoped it would be my turn to be celebrated. However, as the hours passed, I felt a growing sense of unease.
My owner and I went for a walk, which was our usual routine. But today, something felt off. Instead of going to the park or stopping by our favorite café for a treat, we ended up on a busy street. Suddenly, without warning, my owner stopped and looked down at me with a cold gaze. My heart raced as I wagged my tail, trying to show my love and trust. But then, to my shock, my owner turned and walked away, leaving me behind.
I barked desperately, trying to chase after them, but the world around me felt overwhelming. Cars zoomed past, and I was lost in the sea of people, none of whom paid me any mind. I felt a sinking feeling in my heart, the realization that I was all alone on my birthday sinking in deeper with each passing moment.
As the sun climbed higher in the sky, I wandered through the streets, my stomach growling with hunger. I saw other dogs who looked just as lost as I felt. Some were sniffing around for scraps of food, while others lay curled up in corners, trying to find warmth. I approached a few, hoping to find comfort in their company, but we were all too absorbed in our struggles to connect.
Despite the sadness enveloping me, I couldn’t give up hope. Maybe someone would notice me, a little dog in need of love and care. Just then, I caught the attention of a kind woman walking her own dog. She stopped and knelt down, her eyes filled with compassion. “Oh, you poor thing,” she said, reaching out to scratch behind my ears. I felt a flicker of joy in that moment, a small reminder that not all humans were like the one who abandoned me.
The woman decided to take me home with her. As I settled into her warm house, I realized that maybe, just maybe, this birthday wouldn’t end in despair after all. I had lost one family, but perhaps I had found another.
That night, as I curled up in a cozy bed for the first time in hours, I felt grateful. I might not have had a birthday party or treats today, but I had found kindness in a world that seemed so dark. Tomorrow would be a new day, and with it came the promise of love and a chance to celebrate life again.
So, even though today started with heartbreak, it ended with hope. I may have been abandoned, but I had discovered that the world still had love to offer, and I would embrace it with all my heart.
