ToggleEvery day, we hear new stories of abandoned animals, shedding light on the darker aspects of our society. Many of these animals are left in dire circumstances, desperately awaiting someone to rescue them. One such case is a paralyzed dog discovered in a dumpster. His situation appeared bleak, and it seemed unlikely anyone would come across him. Yet, against all odds, this dog’s story unfolded in an unexpected way.
Paralyzed Dog Finds Loving Family
Susanna, a paralyzed dog, was discovered abandoned in a Florida landfill, lying helplessly next to a dumpster. In a heartbreaking state, she was severely malnourished, covered in fleas and ticks, and too weak to move. In early May, Isabel Zapata, a dedicated animal rescuer, found Susanna and reached out to Gulfstream Guardian Angels Rottweiler Rescue, who quickly offered to help. The area where Susanna was found is notorious for being a dumping ground for abandoned animals. Rescuers carefully lifted Susanna onto a tarp, transported her to a truck, and rushed her to the nearest veterinary clinic for urgent care.
At the hospital, Susanna received fluids, and several tests were conducted to determine the cause of her paralysis. After a few days of examination, she was transferred to Clint Moore Animal Hospital in Boca Raton. The tests revealed that, although she had no broken bones or spinal issues, her legs showed signs of physical deformities and arthritis, indicating she had likely been abused and exploited for breeding before being abandoned. Despite her painful past, Susanna displayed remarkable resilience and a strong will to survive. The veterinarians developed a recovery plan for her, which included a healthy diet and physical therapy to aid in her rehabilitation.
After just over a week of rehabilitation, Susanna began walking in water during her therapy sessions, a clear sign of her progress. Now, she is strong enough to interact with other dogs and enjoy simple pleasures like rolling in the grass. With continued treatments and the love she is receiving, Susanna’s condition will keep improving, and she will soon be ready to move into a foster home where she can continue her journey to recovery.
