It’s always heartwarming when a shelter dog gets adopted into a loving home. Dogs seem to instinctively understand when they’ve found their forever family, and their reactions can be incredibly touching.
That’s exactly what happened with one pit bull in a shelter, who was so thrilled to meet her new owner that she couldn’t stop hugging him.
As reported by The Dodo, Mary and Mark McCraw, a couple who had recently lost their dog Mischka to cancer, were looking to adopt. They soon found Maggie, a shelter dog in need of a home, and Mary shared that Maggie “completely melted my heart.”
Their feeling that Maggie was destined to be with them was confirmed during their first meeting. In a heartwarming moment caught on camera, Maggie, meeting her new “dad” for the very first time, immediately leaped onto him and couldn’t stop showering him with kisses.
The video was shared by Pitties From Heaven, a South Carolina foster group that had been caring for Maggie. They were thrilled to witness such a beautiful moment as she headed to her new home.
“It was like they had known each other forever,” they captioned on TikTok. “This is why we foster. It’s the moment when a neglected dog finally becomes part of a family.”
Mary McCraw told The Dodo, “I crouched down so she wouldn’t feel scared, and within moments, she was in my lap—and in my life.”
“From the moment we met her, it was love at first sight. There was an instant bond. It truly feels like she was always meant to be with us.”
It was truly fate—a perfect ending for both a couple seeking to heal the emptiness left by their cherished dog and a pit bull in need of a loving home.
Maggie’s previous foster parent, Andra Mack, described the moment as “like a scene from a movie,” adding that Maggie was “one of the sweetest dogs we’ve ever fostered.”
“They were destined to be together,” Andra told The Dodo. “The beam of sunlight in the video makes me believe that Mischka, their former dog, was watching over the meeting and smiling.”
There’s nothing more heartwarming than seeing a rescue dog find its forever family, and this moment was especially precious. It’s clear that Maggie will be very happy in her new home!
