It was Lady’s birthday, and the little black dog had been excited all day. She had been looking forward to this special day for weeks, her tail wagging in anticipation of the celebration she was sure her owner had planned. Lady imagined blowing out candles on a big birthday cake and savoring every bite of her delicious treat. She even pictured herself surrounded by toys and maybe even a new bone to chew on.
As the day went on, Lady kept glancing at her owner, hoping she would bring out a surprise at any moment. But nothing happened. The sun began to set, and Lady’s excitement started to fade. Finally, when it was time for dinner, Lady’s heart raced with hope. She imagined a feast fit for a queen: a plate filled with her favorite treats, a cake with candles, and a party just for her.
But when her owner set down her dinner, Lady’s heart sank. Instead of a grand meal, she was given a small bowl of plain rice. There was no cake, no candles, and no special treat. Lady stared at the bowl, feeling a wave of sadness wash over her. She had waited all day, dreaming of a celebration that never came.
Lady’s eyes filled with disappointment as she looked up at her owner. She didn’t understand why her birthday was treated like any other day. She had been a good dog, always loyal and loving, and she had hoped her birthday would be a day to remember.
As Lady ate her small meal, she couldn’t help but feel a little heartbroken. The joy and excitement she had felt all day had turned into sadness. She curled up in her bed that night, feeling let down and disappointed. Lady loved her owner, but she couldn’t help but wish her birthday had been just a little more special.
And so, Lady drifted off to sleep, hoping that maybe next year her birthday would be filled with the love and celebration she had dreamed of.
