On July 16, the Augusta Police Department sent Officer Sara Rogers to rescue a neglected and injured puppy. She transported the puppy to a local clinic while the authorities tried to locate the dog’s owner.

Throughout her shift, Officer Rogers watched over the puppy, ensuring she was comfortable until representatives from the Kennebec Humane Society arrived. During this time, Officer Rogers formed a strong bond with the puppy, even sharing a meal with her. Feeling a deep connection and wanting to do more for the dog, Rogers decided to foster her until she could find a permanent home, as the puppy had not yet been adopted.

Rogers chose to keep the puppy and named her Rey, inspired by a character from Star Wars. The heartwarming story and a photo of the duo were shared on the Augusta Police Department’s Facebook page. When the time came to find Rey a new home, Rogers found she couldn’t part with her.
