Patrick Hennesy was likely eager to get home and warm up in bed when he was driving through the chilly morning at 4:30. However, he didn’t hesitate to stop when he saw two frightened puppies in need of help. Hennesy spotted the two pit bulls huddled on the side of the road, immediately recognizing that they were injured and in distress.
He quickly called the Orange County Sheriff’s Office for urgent assistance. By the time officers arrived, the ground was stained with blood, and the scared puppies were whimpering softly. As the officers approached, the puppies instinctively licked and rubbed against them, showing their gratitude for the help.
The officers soon realized that one of the puppies was bleeding heavily. They quickly took action to address the injury, discovering that the blood was from a severe wound likely caused by a car accident. One officer used gauze to apply pressure to the wound, while the other contacted Orange County Animal Services, who instructed them to stay with the puppies until help arrived.
While waiting for animal services, the officers did their best to comfort the shivering, cold puppies, hugging them to provide warmth. Despite the discomfort of the cold and their exhaustion, they were determined not to leave the puppies alone.
When animal services finally arrived, they took the puppies into their care. Thanks to the officers’ kindness and patience, the puppies, named Liberty and Justice, were less frightened and visibly happier. The shelter workers have been delighted by the joyful and affectionate nature of the two pit bulls and are hopeful that they will soon find their perfect forever home.
The officers who had kept Liberty and Justice safe were able to visit them at the shelter and were thrilled to see that the puppies now seemed like the happiest dogs in the world.
