John Unger adopted Schoep as a puppy, and 19 years later, the senior dog developed hip dysplasia and arthritis. To relieve Schoep’s pain, Unger discovered that floating in the water with him was the best way to ease the pressure on his joints.

A friend of Unger captured a photo of the two of them, and it quickly went viral. As the image spread, news outlets picked up their story, and donations began pouring in from around the world. These contributions allowed Unger to explore additional pain management options and cherish an extra year with his beloved Schoep.
