A week ago, a dog was struck by a car on the busy St. Louis Highway 55. Witnessing the accident, compassionate bystanders immediately stopped, rushing to assist the injured pup. The young dog was in immense pain, making it difficult for the rescuers to move her into their car, but these heroes were determined not to give up.
Through social media and the support of Pet Rescue Network, they raised enough funds to take the dog to an emergency clinic for the weekend. They named her Prairie, and it was discovered she had suffered three broken legs and pulmonary contusions (fluid around her lungs) from the accident.
The clinic stabilized Prairie’s condition and temporarily splinted her legs, but due to her extensive injuries, they recommended humane euthanasia. Refusing to give up, the rescuers reached out to Stray Rescue of St. Louis, who immediately agreed to help. Prairie soon arrived at their facility, fighting for her life.
Despite many challenges, Prairie’s prognosis has improved significantly, offering hope for a wonderful quality of life in her future. It’s thrilling to think that soon, Prairie will be able to run and enjoy life fully once again.
