A sweet dog named Adik and his owner, Irina, endured unimaginable abuse while being held hostage for eight months by Russian forces in Ukraine.
United for Animals (UfA) shared their heartbreaking story with Greater Good Charities, seeking support to help Adik regain mobility.
Adik was treated as a “trophy” of war by the Russians and suffered severe mistreatment. UfA stated, “This enemy shows no mercy even towards defenseless creatures like animals.” Upon their release, Adik was unable to walk on his own.
“The physical and psychological traumas inflicted by harsh conditions significantly worsened his condition. He desperately needed a special wheelchair to enjoy walks and an active life again with his owner,” UfA reported. Thanks to your support, Adik received his cart and can now go on walks with his mom. The light has returned to Adik’s eyes as he enjoys the fresh air and sends his thanks.
While the walks are therapeutic for both, the cart also allows Adik to attend rallies with his mom to advocate for the release of Irina’s husband and son from captivity. These brave souls are an inspiration to us all. UfA shared their story on Facebook, writing, “Even in the most difficult times for our people, we all show that nothing can break Ukrainians!”
