Meet Loco, a senior dog with a vibrant personality who recently celebrated a milestone birthday.
At the animal shelter, birthdays are usually observed quietly, but the staff at Spartanburg Humane Society made an exception for Loco.
Thepetneeds reports that special measures were necessary. As Angel C., the chief operating officer of Spartanburg Humane Society, explains,
The entire team came together to celebrate, singing to Loco while she wore a festive birthday hat and a frilly collar. She enjoyed a sweet potato cake and received a “Happy Birthday” banner from the cake shop for her office door.
Many of Loco’s favorite people were on the guest list, but dogs were not allowed. Coxie noted that Loco is especially concerned about her family.
Loco’s love is genuine, but she is equally clear about her dislikes and avoids other dogs.
Despite the absence of dogs, everyone enjoyed celebrating the spirited little dog they have cherished for over two years.
As the shelter’s public face, Loco, who was admitted in 2020 due to chronic medical issues, has become a beloved figure.
She even has her own quiet space away from the animals and people she prefers to avoid. “We moved her to a more comfortable workspace,” Cox explained. “She has three or four dog beds and sleeps in all of them.”
Loco has now demonstrated herself to be a true warrior. She keeps up with regular vaccinations, tests negative for heart disease, and takes thyroid medication to stay healthy.
Despite being a bit older than many of the other residents at the shelter, she is in excellent condition. She’s not looking for a new home, as she has embraced her new role as the “office dog.”
