A miracle happened after the photo of two dogs hugging each other waiting to be euthanized went viral

Two dogs, featured in a viral photograph embracing just hours before their scheduled euthanasia, now have a permanent home with two human best friends in Georgia, as reported by the pet rescue organization that saved them.

Kala, an 11-month-old hound mix, and Keira, a 15-month-old boxer mix, captured the hearts of many on the Internet last July when Angels Among Us Pet Rescue in Georgia posted their touching photo.

The image, originally taken by someone at the Etowah Valley Humane Society, was shared by Angels Among Us Pet Rescue to appeal for donations. These funds were essential for rescuing the dogs from euthanasia, getting them microchipped, and providing the necessary veterinary care, the pet rescue explained to ABC News in a statement.

Cris Folchitto fostered Kala and Keira for several months until they were recently adopted by Wendy and Pam, two longtime best friends and roommates in Georgia, as reported by Angels Among Us Pet Rescue.

Pam, who had recently lost her two elderly dogs, discovered Kala and Keira’s story in a magazine. Upon learning that the hugging pups were still available for adoption, she felt a connection and decided to bring them home.

“It just fell together,” Pam shared with the pet rescue. “We turned our tears into smiles with these two young, playful dogs.”

Wendy mentioned that she and Pam are creating a special Facebook page for Kala and Keira to keep people updated on the “hugging dogs” and to raise donations to support Angels Among Us Pet Rescue in saving other dogs at risk of euthanasia in Georgia.
