She was only 4 pounds when she was rescued, although she should normally weigh between 9 and 12 pounds.
Have you ever encountered an adult dog that weighed just 4 pounds? Typically, puppies weigh between 2 and 6 pounds. A 4-pound Shih Tzu, named Liz, was surrendered to the Trio Animal Foundation in Chicago. The poor dog was covered in matted fur, nearly blind, and soaked in urine, making her unable to stand. She was taken to the Trio Animal Foundation’s partner vet for treatment.
At that time, Liz had such a low body temperature that it couldn’t be detected by thermometers. Her weight of just 4 pounds was far below the normal range of 9 to 12 pounds for an adult Shih Tzu.
It was incredible that she was still alive! After being in their care for a few hours, her body temperature started to rise. She was given fluids and small pieces of chicken.
She slowly improved, but after a few days, she still couldn’t stand. She wasn’t quite ready to do so yet. No one knows who harmed Liz; a compassionate stranger was the one who brought her to the shelter.
