Bull Pit, known as Barbie when he was a young puppy, was used as a bait dog in a dogfighting ring. When he was rescued, he suffered from both psychological trauma and physical injuries. His weak body was riddled with wounds and infections, leaving him deeply fearful.
He was utterly defenseless, with his injury producing a foul odor. Ultimately, these dire conditions led to his demise.
Bobby was rescued just before he was to be put down, but his troubles were far from over. For the next two months, he was kept locked away in a garage, treated like discarded trash. It wasn’t until a compassionate woman discovered his plight that his fate began to shift. As Bobby sat bewildered and frustrated in his rescuer’s car, he had no idea that his life was about to undergo a profound transformation.
For the first time, Bobby experienced the warmth and care of his new mother’s love. She allowed him to face his fears and shyness at his own speed. Over the months, his remarkable physical and emotional recovery amazed everyone. He formed a deep connection with his rescuer, which eventually led to significant separation anxiety, a response that was entirely understandable given his past experiences.
To ensure Bubby felt secure and stable while she was away, his owner chose to introduce crate training. During this process, Bubby discovered the added comfort that blankets provide. Each morning, he would sneak out of his crate with a blanket, happily parading around the house, sniffing and wagging his tail.
The comforting presence of Bubby’s blanket provided him with a sense of safety. Although his nightmares and past traumas began to fade, his fondness for his “blanket routine” remained strong. Over time, he also developed a love for pillows, toys, and anything else that reminded him of home.
When Bobby’s family welcomed Simon, another rescued pit bull, into their home, they gave him the greatest gift of all. Although Bobby was expected to eventually move past his blanket obsession, he never did. Now, it seems only a matter of time before Simon begins to mimic his brother’s deep affection for the blanket, as he looks up to and adores Bobby. Isn’t it amazing? Pit bulls are incredibly endearing!
