Morocho, a Dogo, saved two young girls from a puma attack. This famous dog bravely confronted the puma to protect the children.
A few months earlier, Ulises, the grandson of the breed’s creator, had gone to run errands in La Cocha. He took his 10-year-old daughter, Sofía, with him, planning to make it a day trip. The journey went smoothly.
As soon as they arrived at the estancia, the foreman, Tomás, immediately began working with Uisses. Tomás’s daughter, Yoli, and her friend, Sofía, asked for permission to visit a large fig tree located 700 yards from the main house to gather and enjoy some figs.
Yoli, eager to reach the best figs at the top, climbed as high as she could. However, she soon discovered that the tree had been climbed by others before her.
While Yoli was about 7 feet off the ground, she heard the rustling of leaves and the swaying of branches.
She was unaware that the very tree she climbed was also home to a puma, commonly known as a mountain lion or cougar.
When she glanced up, Yoli saw a massive puma descending from the upper branches. The powerful animal struck her with one of its paws, causing her to fall approximately two meters to the ground below.
Meanwhile, Morocho, one of Ulises’ top dogs, had been playfully wagging his tail whenever they passed by the estancia. Upon encountering the puma, Morocho chose to risk his own life to protect the two young girls. Hearing their screams, Yoli’s father rushed to their aid as quickly as possible.
As Tomas Bracamonte described it, “I thought it was a snake.” I rushed over as fast as I could. When I arrived, Morocho was already there. Despite being severely injured, the dog was still alive. The puma had retreated.
Thanks to Morocho, those two young girls are alive today. His courage has amazed millions around the world. He is truly blessed, as our furry angels watch over us all. Godspeed, indeed!
