Accountant Steve Greig resides in Colorado, surrounded by a menagerie of animals that reflect his deep love and dedication to creatures in need. At his home, you’ll find ten dogs, the majority of whom are seniors, along with two cats, a pig named Bikini, two ducks, two pigeons, two chickens, and one rabbit. His commitment primarily lies with senior dogs, who often face challenges in finding permanent homes due to their age.
“I grew up in a household filled with animals,” Corey reminisces. “My pet-loving parents were always supportive of my desire for pets, as long as I took responsibility for their care.”
Steve’s journey into animal rescue began gradually. Initially, he had three or four dogs when he first moved into his own home. However, the passing of one of his dogs deeply impacted him. “I was genuinely devastated by the loss,” Corey recalls. “Even months later, I was still grieving. I realized that the best way to heal was to make a positive impact that wouldn’t have occurred if my dog hadn’t passed away.”
Determined to honor his late friend’s memory and provide another dog with a good life, Steve visited a nearby shelter and adopted a puppy that had little chance of finding a home. This marked the beginning of his mission.
Corey recounts one of his earliest adoptions: a 12-year-old Chihuahua named Eeyore, who had a heart murmur and severe leg issues. This adoption set the stage for Steve’s ongoing dedication to animals of all kinds.
Today, Steve cares for ten dogs, eight of which are his own, while the other two belong to his sister and a roommate. Each dog has unique dietary needs, prompting Corey to rise at 5 a.m. every day to prepare breakfast tailored to each canine companion.
