Finding Moka on June 11th at the raided puppy mill was heartbreaking. The place was filled with abandoned dogs, all victims of a cruel business. Huddled together, they were weak and starving. Knowing they wouldn’t survive on their own, especially at such a young age, we immediately took them in.
Moka, the most delicate of the three tiny pups, needed extra care. An emergency facility was his only hope, where he required oxygen and a blood transfusion. Despite the situation’s severity, we clung to hope for his survival.
The following day, we brought Moka in for further blood tests. He appeared malnourished, his diseased skin making him look like a skeleton. Due to his trauma, he was fearful of people. Meanwhile, the other puppies grew up and found homes. Some were transferred to other shelters due to our inability to accommodate all of them.
Moka and the other two puppies joined us. After receiving his vaccines, Moka had to stay confined for an additional week, requiring medical care. Following Nabi’s adoption, Xabi was next. Despite making strides, Moka seemed fragile and less attractive to potential adopters.
Moka’s situation tugged at my heartstrings, even though I understood it wasn’t his doing. We had pledged to look after him and ensure he received the best possible care.
A week in, Moka’s recovery gained momentum. He started eating independently with a noticeable increase in appetite. We prioritized giving him sunlight exposure to boost his immunity, while he continued to receive medical care every few days. Additionally, medicated baths soothed his skin condition.
By the fifteenth day, Moka had made remarkable progress. He was independently eating almost exclusively raw food, had adapted well to medicated baths, and showed a notable improvement in his behavior. This transformation convinced us that Moka would soon become the perfect companion, showcasing the remarkable resilience of animals when given the love and care they deserve.
