It’s amazing that they awarded the dog a medal. After going out to pee, he came back with a medal.
During the Elkmont Trackless Train Half Marathon in Canada, runners were surprised when a dog joined them after sneaking out for a bathroom break. Ludivine, the charming Bloodhound, had slipped through a garden gate and headed straight for the race start. Despite pausing to investigate a dead rabbit at the two-mile mark, Ludivine impressed by finishing eighth in the race.
Despite frequently veering off course, seemingly to play with a herd of cows, the dog managed to cross the finish line in an impressive time and place after an hour and a half of running. The official Facebook page of Elkmont’s Hound Half featured adorable photos of Ludivine participating in the half-marathon.
Ludivine received a medal in recognition of her achievement, much to the delight of her owner, April Hamlin, 41, who was thrilled with her pet’s performance.
“I simply opened the door,” she recounted to Runner’s World, “and she took off, running the race entirely on her own initiative.” “My initial reaction was embarrassment and concern that she might interfere with the other runners,” Hamlin admitted. “She’s usually laid-back and friendly, so I was surprised she completed the entire half marathon because she’s actually quite lazy.” “Every time I thought she had given up and gone back home, I would hear her coming back to me,” said Jim Clemens, who finished fourth in the half marathon. “She would escape from me and dash towards the two frontrunners. Occasionally, she would sneak off to play in streams and sniff around yards.”
