In these desolate places, abandoned, mistreated, and injured dogs sift through dirt and refuse, fighting to survive in the harshest conditions. It’s a deeply sorrowful reality. Among them was Lola.
Despite her circumstances, this kind and gentle giant greeted the world with a wagging tail and a warm smile, even as she lay abandoned amidst the trash.
Left at an Illegal Dumping Site
Jess, an experienced rescuer, was heartbroken when she saw a video of Lola shared by the Pawpers in the Ruff rescue.
For nearly five days, Lola endured without food or water, completely deprived of basic necessities. Yet, when the rescuers arrived, she greeted them with a wagging tail and a heart full of trust, eager to make friends.
The moment Jess met Lola, the connection was immediate. Lola’s sweet demeanor melted Jess’s heart, and she knew right away—Lola was meant to be her dog.
“She was meant to be ours from the moment that video brought me to tears on our @pawpersintheruff chat,” Jess shared on Instagram.
With plans quickly made, Lola had a trip to her new home—a fresh start and a family who loved her!
Welcome Home, Lola
Jess felt immense joy watching Lola thrive in her new surroundings. Despite her difficult past, Lola adapted within days, embracing her new world with curiosity and joy. She became the ideal companion for Jess, enjoying hikes, long walks, and playful moments in her large yard. A natural social butterfly, Lola greeted everyone with warmth, making friends wherever she went.
But one day, Jess noticed a change. Lola’s appetite decreased, and her once-energetic demeanor faded. When her condition rapidly declined, Jess knew it was time for a thorough veterinary examination.
The results were heartbreaking: Lola had severe hip dysplasia, a deformed right rear leg, and a twisted pelvis that didn’t sit straight—all from an injury she’d suffered as a puppy. Jess was crushed, realizing how much pain Lola had hidden behind her joyful smile.
For months, Lola received medication to manage her chronic pain, but the vets determined that surgery wasn’t an option. Jess and her family stood by her side, helping her through both her good days and bad with unwavering love and compassion.
You’ll Always Be Remembered, Sweet Girl
Lola was a true fighter. Despite her incredible resilience and months of battling her condition with Jess by her side, her journey eventually came to an end. Against all odds, Lola’s fight was over, leaving her family heartbroken.
“It shatters me that she’s no longer here, growing older with us and enjoying the simple joys we shared, like splitting chicken nuggets,” Jess wrote in a heartfelt post.
The loss of Lola left her family and friends devastated. Yet, amid the grief, Jess found solace in knowing that Lola’s final chapter was filled with warmth and love. She was no longer the abandoned dog found at a dumping site but a cherished member of the family.
Giving Lola the life she deserved was the greatest gift Jess could offer, and in return, Lola filled their home with unconditional love and unforgettable memories.
